stopping a program from starting up after login

Kimsan

Windows 10 latest and jfw 2020.
I installed discord many moons back, how do I have it stop from starting up?
I looked under the start up tab and services tab in msconfig, but discord
was no where to be found.
Then I looked in the discord application itself, and couldn't find anything,
as I am still learning my way around that application.

I had the same problem, solution was I used my Braillenote Touch Plus and completed registration using Clubhouse Record.

Right so I do that, it says get your username.
I then enter in my number.
It then sends me a code, and I type it in.
Now here I am at the screen that says “Let’s set up your profile?”
Then all I have is an import from Twitter button.
If I hit that it opens twitter, but I can’t hit the authorize app button.
There is no other way for me to be able to enter a username manually or anything else on this app.
This is as far as I’ve been able to get and I’ve tried this multiple times.
This is on an iPhone SE, first generation.
I could try on android but its not my primary.
So what am I missing?

making work laptop more accessible for my needs?

goshawk on horseback

hello all,
sorry for the long e-mail, but am really hoping some of you can help with a laptop issue I am having.
the laptop in question, is one I was provided with, a while after I got elected on to fenland district council.
whilst don't get me wrong, I appreciate them doing this, and it has proved reasonably useful for accessing reports/agenda packs whilst at meetings, I am having some major access issues with it, that are really giving me a batch of headaches!
the main 2 issues, are that in order to insure that it is, and remains compatible with current and future systems, rather than windows7, which I am used to using, it has some version of win10 on it, which has an interface that I am not at all familiar with, and that I am not finding very usable at all.
as if that wasn't enough of an issue, instead of at least letting me have NVDA on it, (as I appreciate that window-eyes, which would have been my first choice, as it is what I am most used to using, wasn't going to work), someone had the not so great idea of putting jaws on it. whilst again, it probably is the better screenreader over all, again, it is the one I am least familiar with actually using, so is not as much help as it should be.
over this last year, whilst meetings have been over zoom, these haven't been issues, as I have been able to use my good old win7 machine with window-eyes, with no issues what so ever.
now that the government in it's not so great wisdom, have stated that councils can't have remote meetings anymore, I am now looking at having to use a machine which, because of a screenreader that I am not at all familiar with, and an os/interface I am not at all familiar with, is quite frankly more of a hindrance, than a help!
because it is a council machine, I haven't got the rights of access to properly customise it, so what I need are proper instructions that I can give to the council's it team, if possible to do the following:
1, get the os interface to work like win7, so that I can actually work with it.
and 2 get jaws to work like window-eyes if possible, or nvda if not possible.

thanks for any help received, and I hope it all makes sense.

Simon

Re: Attention Quenten especially, about sending the NVDA log for tech support

There wasn't NVDA+control+t in the steps I gave you - NVDA+control+g (G for golf) opens NVDA's general settings - just like press NVDA+n, then p then enter).  The other one with three keys was NVDA+control+c (C for charlie) to save settings, which again you can do another way, NVDA+n, then down arrow to save settings and enter.

There is telephone support you can get from our shop either on its own by the half hour block, or as part of the NVDA Productivity Bundle: https://www.nvaccess.org/product/nvda-telephone-support/

Otherwise you get me here - I'm live, just slow :)

Kind regards

Quentin.

I tried the caps lock and the numeric insert NVDA key+ ctrl+t, but so far it did not respond.  Does this mean that I must first successfully install it?  That's where I'm stuck so far.  Is there a way that I can get free live help?

Hi Sharon,

No problem, here are the steps:

First of all, your NVDA key is either INSERT or CAPS LOCK, depending on how you have NVDA setup.  So, to set your log level:
1) Press NVDA+control+g to open the general settings
2) Press TAB until the focus is on 'Log level'
3) Press DOWN ARROW to get to 'Debug'
4) Press ENTER to close settings
5) Press NVDA+control+c to save settings.

To restart NVDA with add-ons disabled:
1) Press NVDA+Q
2) Down arrow to 'Restart with add-ons disabled'
3) Press ENTER

Next, recreate the issue - do whatever causes problems.

To get NVDA's log after that, there are several ways:

If NVDA is still running and usable:
1) Press NVDA+F1 to open the log viewer
2) Press CONTROL+A to select all.
3) Press CONTROL+C to copy.
4) Open your email and start a message to info@..., type a little about what you have done and what has happened in the body of the message, then leave a space and:
5) Press CONTROL+V to paste the copied log.

Instead of using the log viewer, or if NVDA has stopped and you needed to restart it or the computer:
1) Press WINDOWS+R to open Windows' Run dialog
2) Type %temp% and press ENTER (that's the percent sign, the letter t e m p and another percent sign).  Windows Explorer should open to the temporary folder.
3) Press TAB to move to the file list
4) Press N and move down to find up to three files:  nvda.log (the log file for the current or most recent NVDA session), nvda-old.log (the log from the previous session) and nvda-crash.dmp (a crash dump with more information created if NVDA itself crashes).
5) Depending on what email program you use, the steps will be different, but attach as many of those three files to an email to info@... as will be useful, and again in the body of the message describe a bit about what has happened.

Camera question for the blind

Cole

Hi
I’m new to the list serve. My name is Cole Roberts. I have been totally blind since 2002 due to Glaucoma. I have a quick couple of camera accessible questions for the blind.
First, I want to get into podcasting and vlogging. What would be the best camera for this task if you are totally blind? I do have a GoPro 8 black. Would my I-pad pro camera be the best? My friend suggested a camcorder, but most modern camcorders on the market don’t seam accessible with their touch screens. I am looking for something basic, good, and not expensive.
Second, for my podcast, I was going to use my I-pad and I bought a kimafun wireless lapel mic to work with it. After testing it out with some sighted help, it works and is what I am looking for, but as soon as I plug my mic into the I-pad, voiceover stops working. So I tried to hit play first before plugging my mic in, but that just stopped the recording. When the mic is plugged in and voiceover is not working, how do I hit play and make sure it is working? Also about the question above, my wish would be to plug my kimafun into my GoPro, and contro every thing with my phone, but if their is a better camera that is more independently and accessible friendly, that would be great.
Thank you.
Yours,
Cole Roberts

There should be a skip button once you get to the Twitter area.

Maybe because you are using older phones this doesn’t present itself.

Best thing to do is to send ClubHouse an email and advise them of your issue.

They are very prompt at taking action.

That’s the same problem I’m having too.

I can’t even enter a username.

It just says import f from twitter, and I can’t even do that as when I hit that button and it opens twitter, the authorize app button  is dimmed.

I don't understand how to accept Clubhouse invitations.  I tried going to the next step after entering my phone number, but It seems I'm stuck. I also tried getting my username, but failed.  Do I need to try again or take a different way?  And once I get in successfuly, how do I accept?

Thanks,

There’s no  skip button.

Do you have an email address so I can?

I think is still beta so this would be good feedback for them to fix.

Thanks,

John

There should be a skip button once you get to the Twitter area.

Maybe because you are using older phones this doesn’t present itself.

Best thing to do is to send ClubHouse an email and advise them of your issue.

They are very prompt at taking action.

Cheers,

Interesting, not sure how to get around that, as I don’t have a phone of that vintage laying around anymore.

I suggest to get around it, try it on your Android and once your in, then swap your sim back to your iphone and you should be good to go.

Thanks again,

John

If you have the Clubhouse app installed on your phone, you just click the link in the message.

Attention Quenten especially, about sending the NVDA log for tech support

Sharon Hooley

Hi,

I was asked to send the log for NVDA to help resolve the issue of the buttons not reading properly for installation, but I deleted that message. I'm ready to take care of that now, so, if you don't mind, can you please send again the steps for finding and sending it?

Thanks,

Re: NVDA Growse and Focus Mode Sounds

Mike B.

Hi Gene,

I realized after I sent the message that to make NVDA verbally report the Browse and Focus modes all I had to do was uncheck the,

“Audio indication of focus and browse modes”, checkbox.

And I did find where to replace the sound files / Waves folder, and for anyone else that wants to know where this folder is the file path is below.

C:\Program Files (x86)\NVDA\waves

Thanks much for your help.

Stay safe & take care.  Mike.
Just once, I want a username and password prompt to say:  "Close Enough!"

You could put your own wave files in in place of what is there.  You can change to verbal notification.  In browse mode settings, tab until you get to a check box that says:
“Audio indication of focus and browse modes”.  Check it with the space bar and activate the ok button.

The fast way to open browse mode settings is with the command control nvda key b.

Hi All,

In NVDA when you switch between browse and focus modes and use the sounds, is it possible to chage these sounds to different sounds?  Or, can you have NVDA report verbally browse or focus mode?  Thanks much.
