Also, how are you getting to the Dropbox folder with your files in it?  If you are not using the Dropbox icon on the desktop but going to the Dropbox folder in your computer, that doesn’t tell you if Dropbox is running.  All it tells you is that you are using the Dropbox folder that contains the files you have uploaded to Dropbox.  Copying a file to that folder if Dropbox isn’t running will do nothing but add a file to the folder on your machine.

Blaster,
I just see dropbox folder treview. When I expand it, it just says dropbox website.
On the mac, I uninstalled dropbox and reinstalled it, so now on the status bar I think it's called, it just says syncing, connecting, syncing connecting.
I'm signed into dropbox as well on the mac.

Re: another dvd program

Gene

This isn’t because of the player.  Your friend evidently only played one file.  I don’t use VLC to any extent so I can’t tell you how you might do this in the player itself.  But all files must be selected and specified to be played.  This doesn’t necessarily mean selecting them all in the list and doing so may not result in them playing in the correct order.

The following method should work.  I have used it so seldom that I can’t be sure everything is exactly correct but if there are errors, I hope people will correct me.  If it doesn’t work, let me know.  I can experiment.

Find the files on the drive you want.  They may be in a folder or not.  But let’s assume you want to play all the files in a folder or on the drive.  Once you are in the folder or on the drive with those files, I am assuming there are no others to play, open the context menu when nothing is selected.  Down arrow through the choices.  I believe one will be play in VLC Player.  Press enter.  As I recall, all the files should play and should play in the proper order.

You may not want to watch them all at one time and if you close the player and open the files in the same way, you will need to know the player command to skip to the next track so you can play the next video or the third video or wherever you want to start and have the rest play from there.

In other words, this isn’t a player problem.  it’s a problem of selecting files or determining how the player will play them.  You would have the same problem in any other player.

Hello all

Ok I’m having no luck at all with vlc media player.  I had someone start one of the vidios for me himself, and it only played the first episode.  This dvd has at least four or five episodes on it.

Is there some other player that would be at least somewhat usable by the blind?

Many thanks gang.

Hi,
So I pay for the 2 tb option for drop box. I at times from my
windows machine put things into drop box. When I go to the mac,
launch drop box, I’m not seeing the item in there, and only see it
on the windows side. Any thoughts?
Thank you

In addition, when you uninstall say AVG or whatever other antivirus you have , Windows Defender will turn itself back on again automatically.

Windows Defender stops running if another antivirus program is installed.  You aren’t supposed to have two antivirus programs running at the same time so Windows Defender shuts down.

I think I eventually got it turned back on but in the meantime I found out that AVG was installed and apparently running. I have no idea how AVG got installed, must've been part of some bloatwear that got installed when I installed something else even though I have unchecky installed and that's supposed to stop extra things like that from installing, but unless the message I got was wrong apparently certain things can shut down windows security.

Hi Kathy. I use the apple magic keyboard. I know there are other options out
there that are less expensive, but the apple magic keyboard is the only one
I have experience with.

The twitter feed is there so people can respond to it in the twitter conversation directly I expect.

And yes this is exactly what w we’re talking about.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what's going on here I've been noticing this for several years.

In case what's being discussed is different from what I've experienced, I can be reading an article online and there are links entered right in the middle of it that may or may not be related to the article's content but usually is.

Another annoyance for me, and this happens both while reading something on the internet using my computer or my iPhone, is twitter links. It seems like there'll be a quote from somebody's twitter feed in the article and that's fine, but then it puts the links to that feed and again repeats the quoted text from above. I don't know why something has to be repeated like that, just the quote should be good enough without having the actual twitter feed there too.

Its not  always opinion but stuff that is related.

I’ve gotten down a rabbit whole because of this lol.

Gene,

I read READER’S DIGEST for years, but stopped when their articles were essentially thumbnail sketches filled with links.  I wouldn’t mind if such links were posted at the end of articles, but as you point out, that doesn’t seem to be the way of modern journalism; after all, it’s all about catching the eye and attention of the reader immediately; after all, the reader may not read to the end of the article.

The New York Times recently has begun inserting sections in articles containing text and links to related articles, or articles in the same section that are only related by category, such as that they are all opinion articles.  Here is an example:

This appears in the middle of an opinion article about Biden’s foreign policy:

OPINION DEBATEWill the Democrats face a midterm wipeout?

• EZRA KLEIN writes that “midterms typically raze the governing party” and explores just how tough a road the Democrats have ahead.

• JAMELLE BOUIE wonders whether voters will accept a party “that promises quite a bit but won’t work to make any of it a reality.”

• MAUREEN DOWD writes that Biden has “a very narrow window to do great things” and shouldn’t squander it appeasing Republican opponents.

• THOMAS B. EDSALL explores new research on whether the Democratic Party could find more success focusing on race or on class when trying to build support.

While I read other content online and haven’t seen an increase in this sort of thing, this could be the start of a new trend.  Have others seen an increase?

Ways of eliminating intrusive content such as Edge’s Immersive Reader, don’t detect and remove these long sections.  How do they look different to sighted readers?  Does the difference in appearance give any indication of how these sections might be detected and removed or skipped by screen-readers or features like Immersive Reader??

You can press the Windows key and tap the letter B key to go to the notifications chevron. Press the spacebar to open the menu and arrow up or down to see if it's in there.

If it's not in there then you need to launch dropbox with the desktop icon or from the start menu.
I once waited a whole day to upload a file to dropbox, only to find it wasn't running and it just sat in my dropbox folder on my pc, lol.

If dropbox is installed and there's no icon in the system tray, adding it back should be fairly easy, just let us know.

If you uploaded the files in question from your Windows PC they may
have not fully uploaded, so they wouldn't be available anywhere but the source PC.
Check the system tray icon and see if it's still sensing the folder
and uploading those files.

You need to link the Mac computer to your Dropbox account. Try the
following:

Using JAWS 2020 and Google Chrome, I do the following:

On Dropbox site, after logging in, enter on Account. This expands
the account menu.

Enter on Settings

Enter on Security tab, to select it.

There are several other settings before the list of devices. Either
scroll past them, or look for the word "devices" on the page.

Devices currently linked to Dropbox are listed from the most
recently used to the oldest. Each device has an indication of when
it was last using Dropbox, and each device has an "unlink" button.

Hi,
So I pay for the 2 tb option for drop box. I at times from my
windows machine put things into drop box. When I go to the mac,
launch drop box, I’m not seeing the item in there, and only see it
on the windows side. Any thoughts?
Thank you

Re: An Amazon problem

Loy, Yes, I have had this problem too. If you press the space bar on,
let's say, the 256 option and then keep tabbing you may find a message
saying "out of stock". This info used to be directly next to the
button, but now it's buried somewhere on the screen. Have you tried
using the amazon.com/access website to see if it handles this problem
better then the main site? I haven't, but I'll try this the next time
I run into this issue.

Loy:

I have found that sometimes when you arrow down through the size choices,
JAWS does not announce the options. I just arrow down once, then Shift tab

to the beginning and then the size will be announced. You may have to do
this more than once to get to where you want. If all else fails, call
Amazon disability and have them pick the items and size and put into your
cart.

Hello all

Ok I’m having no luck at all with vlc media player.  I had someone start one of the vidios for me himself, and it only played the first episode.  This dvd has at least four or five episodes on it.

Is there some other player that would be at least somewhat usable by the blind?

Many thanks gang.
