win10 privacy issues?

Stumpy <stumpyscott61@...>

I remember reading that Win10 has a few settings that should be changed to protect some security/ privacy issues.  Would someone please point out these issues and ways to change them please?

    Thanks in advance,

This article
discusses all the various privacy settings and how to change them.  There are also several utilities like Spybot Anti-Beacon
which will disable them all for you by clicking just one button.  Although even if you decide to use a tool like Spybot Anti-Beacon, I would still recommend reading through the article so you understand the various privacy settings.

It's also worth noting you can't turn off automatic updating correct?

There are ways of completely disabling updates, but they are not official and are pretty much all or nothing.

You can choose to remove specific updates, but you cannot choose which one
you can install (at this time; this has been one of the top requests sent to
Microsoft).

Not possible. You can use the Windows 10 "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter
""https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930?utm_source=twitter
to temporarily disable individual updates, but eventually they will be reenabled.

I object to forced updates in general, but I object even more to forced driver updates. However, perhaps they have been working on this recently since I haven't noticed it trying to update to the buggy Realtek drivers lately. Although I run 10 so seldom that it may simply not have had time to reenable the update.

I seriously doubt this is going to change. Forced updates is a new policy that they seem determined to enforce. As I said, I could live with it if forced driver updates were not included. Most users won't care because they are just happy to be getting something for free. Although considering the privacy concerns, I can't imagine why anyone would want to pay for it after the free upgrade period expires. Of course after a certain point, you will get Windows 10 if you purchase a new machine whether you like it or not.
