Firefox is very similar to IE for most things with the exception of the open a file and go to a web address commands.

In FF use control plus L to get to a place to type in a web address. I think of control L like opening a Location on the web instead of opening a file like in IE. In firefox Control plus O refers to opening a file and not an actual web page. I forget which version of JAWS you're using, but the commands for FF and IE are nearly identical, though older versions of JAWS don't work well with current versions of Firefox. It works well with JAWS, but as was indicated if you have a very old version of JAWS it may not work as well as it does with newer versions.

The highest or latest version of JAWS that you can use on XP is Version 15. I am glad to hear that someone else is using XP besides myself. I cannot afford to move up right now. Blessings and All the Very Best, Pat

As many of you know, I was a huge fan of XP and vowed to hang onto it forever. I had many a debate with Gene over my stubborn refusal to upgrade to Windows 7 or 8. But three months ago, my Dell XP desktop dies suddenly and unexpectedly and I was forced to switch to Windows 7 which came with the refurbed computer I had had the foresight to acquired from the Texas-based Computers for the Blind organization, as a backup for just such a contingency. They make refurbed desktop PC's and laptop PC's available to anyone who is blind and motivated for the nominal fee of $110 or $140, respectively, which is certainly affordable for most of us and great insureance in case your XP computer dies suddenly like mine did. I am using my refurbed Windows 7 PC right now as I compose this message, and because it came with NVDA and a demo version of JAWS 15 already installed, I was able to get up and running again in short order with the help of my sighted techie friend.

I use it on Amazon all of the time, the full site, not the access one. I use the latest version of NVDA amd Firefox and they play well together.

Well, I know they added new features between 11 and 15, but I don't think the basic commands have changed all that much.

do better that is one thing. But computers today are very affordable even new ones. But you can always find refurbish or used or display models or un box models and from various organization for cheap. Usually 150 bucks or less. Of course then there is the ones that just refuse to upgrade as they don't want to learn something a little new. Which W7 is not that much difference than XP was. W8 and W10 is and W10 is much better than W8 is or was. Than there is some that if they cannot have the latest and greatest then they don't want it. Even though they might not be able to swing that at all. Instead of getting what they can afford which is something much less but much better than what they have and possible much safer! Now no I not political correct in my statement of opinions and not trying to be. I get told everyday something I might not like or agree with or a fact that I don't like. That don't mean I should not hear it. As long as you not just right out bashing the person or trying to put them down. Which I would myself would never do if I knew I was doing it. So the fact is in most cases not all but in most cases it is a choice when it comes to not upgrading your PC from an old unsupported version. As PC is cheap now and you don't have to have a new one. A Good used one or refurbish one or something like that will do and is very nice . Lots of places will let you put things on layaway. I think goodwill will do this as well. I am sure there is other places that will do this as well. JMO! Matt.from.florida@gmail.com

Hi
I always use Alt +D for the search in Firefox just like IE. How safe is it if you don't upgrade every Firefox upgrade? Thanks Marsha

I would love to use firefox on amazon's main site but every time I try both window-eyes,or nvda and firefox freeze because of some kind of anamation or constantly refreshing advertisement on their front page, anybody know how to stop this from happening?

You don't necessarily have to upgrade immediately every time there's a new release. Skipping a version or two probably won't cause any harm as long as there are no major security updates, but I wouldn't let myself fall too far behind if you use it regularly.
