having trouble joining nexrtdoor.com

Hi all, I am running jaws 18 and windows ten. I am trying to join nexgtdoor.com and it has a captcha thing. How do I get past that? Jim

Gerald Levy

If memory serves, the Next Door site has one of those "I am not a robot" check boxes.  If you use Google Chrome, you can check this box to bypass the captcha.

If it's next door, why do you say nexrtdoor or nexgtdoor?  I'm convinced that neither of them exist.

You don't bypass the captcha. You may be approved or you may have to solve an audio captcha. Either may happen after you check the check box. You should be able to use the check box with other browsers as well. I don't think it works with Internet Explorer.

The check box is intended to show the captcha that the person using it isn't a robot. the captcha analyzes the way the mouse moves on the page and infers whether the person is a human. If that inference indicates the user isn't a human, or may not be, a visual captcha is presented to the sighted user and a blind user can get an audio captcha.

At times those working from the keyboard are approved without a captcha. At times they aren't. I don't know if I believe the captcha can tell to an extent if someone is using a keyboard and infer whether the user is a human but it isn't nearly as accurate.

If only a checkbox were used without the analysis I described, then a machine would be able to check the checkbox and the captcha would be worthless.

The robot would have to fill out a captcha so it would be no better off than with a captcha without the check box. I don't know what the algorithm might look for to try to determine if a human pressed the space bar. perhaps it’s the amount of time between coming to the page and pressing it. I don't know if it can take other things into account or what they might be. With a mouse, its very different. It can tell how the mouse is being moved.

Jim, sometimes, the "I'M NOT A ROBOT" CAPTCHA checkbox DOES NOT change state
using a screen reader. In other words, you press <enter> on it and it says
"checkbox, unchecked."

When this happens, I simply tab around until I find GET AN AUDIO CHALLENGE
and that typically takes care of things for me. Sometimes, I have to GET
MORE THAN ONE AUDIO CHALLENGE in order to make sense of the words or
incomplete sentences I am being asked to type in the edit box. The
background audio noise isn't helpful either and I wonder why having such
noise is necessary. But, which rules DID I MAKE?

I hope the info shared herein is a tad helpful; I have ONLY SHARED that
which I have experienced. Now, I'm going back to being a robot as that's my
regular scheduled program!

Sincerely,
Olusegun

Jim is an Androidean! We run into each other regularly in our Androidville

is so much easier than trying to do it on a computer.

Personally, I find the app really, really boring! Virtually everyone on
there in my neighbourhood are always LOSING THEIR DOGS AND CATS! I do
wonder why they bother to have pets of any kind when they're not
particularly ready and available to care for and protect their pets. I
don't have a pet for two reasons: First, I am allergic to fur and constant
shedding may send me gate crashing seven feet below this ground; second, I'm
NOT AVAILABLE to care for a pet and it will be a sin to neglect it assuming
I find one that won't shed hair at all.

Actually Nextdoor was a big help to me last spring when i couldn't locate face masks. it seemed like every place was sold out,a nd it would take two months to get them from Amazon. I put out an inquiry on nextdoor, and got several responses from folks in my neighborhood who were making masks at home. Some folks charged a little, but many were giving them out for free.

Indirectly, next-door was a big help to me last summer after my apartment was burglarized. The burglar left my wallet and scattered its contents along a nearby neighborhood and people through the next-door application helped me retrieve those items. They found them and they let me know that they found them through the app and I was able to retrieve those items from those individuals. I can see how the app could be helpful to people and I am keeping it on my phone in case I ever need it again or in case I can offer assistance to someone.

I agree with you about pets. I don’t think most people have any business owning pets because they can’t take care of them.

Blessings,

Victor

Hi Group:

I found that with next door, it was very difficult for me using the app.  I get a daily digest on the computer that comes in my email and I can enter on the link and hit H for heading and then I can read what's there.  I find the computer is easier to comment on things.  When I was using the app, whenever I clicked on my notifications, I had trouble reading and responding to stuff on there.  If you know of an easier way to use this app, please let me know.

Gene, because you, by your own admission, do not use Google Chrome, your analysis is not accurate.  Using Chrome, whenever I have encountered an "I am not a robot" check box and checked it, I have always been able to bypass visual captchas and audio challenges.  But the same may not be true of other Chromium based browsers like Brave and Edge, because they are rivals to Chrome and so have not received authorization from Google to bypass captchas with its proprietary recaptcha system. I suspect that Chrome, unlike other browsers, may recognize that the user is using a screen reader and so bypasses the captcha step to make the process accessible to the blind and hearing impaired.

As a follow-up, I just completed an online form using Google Chrome to request the Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine at home.  There was an"I am not a robot" check box, which I checked, and I was able to submit the form successfully without being confronted with a visual captcha or audio challenge.

You don't bypass the captcha. You may be approved or you may have to solve
an audio captcha.  Either may happen after you check the check box.  You
should be able to use the check box with other browsers as well.  I don't
think it works with Internet Explorer.

If memory serves, the Next Door site has one of those "I am not a robot"
check boxes.  If you use Google Chrome, you can check this box to bypass the

captcha.

I am extensively an Opera browser user, and I've  never had any trouble going through the "i'm not a robot" checkbox on any website.  Cheers!

I have used Chrome and I use Chrome based browsers like Brave and Edge. I have found instances where Chrome isn't automatically approved just because I press enter on the check box. And think of how illogical your claim is. Let's say a spammer wanted to get around captchas. All the spammer would have to do is be signed into Google and he could have a bot activate the check box on any site with this kind of captcha. the captcha is to evaluate whether the user is a human, not whether the user is signed into a Google account.

I didn't say you are never approved. You have described one instance. it may happen a number of times. One instance means nothing.

As a follow-up, I just completed an online form using Google Chrome to request the Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine at home. There was an"I am not a robot" check box, which I checked, and I was able to submit the form successfully without being confronted with a visual captcha or audio challenge.
