jaws license and sma

Amy Gordon

Hi, was wondering what the differance is between the yearly license
and the s.m.a. for Jaws for windows? I currently have the 2021
version of jaws. Trying to decide which would be better for upgrading
yearly or s.m.. Thanks for any help.
Amy

You can get a SMA until July 31 that cover the next two years for $120,
regularly $150. That is if in US. These licenses you can use as long as you
wish. If you are not current then the annual license might be the least
expensive. But at the end of the year you have to renew or your license
reverts to 40 minute mode.

Hi Amy,

In a nutshell, if you have the annual license version you pay $95 a year to have it, but I don't know if this is a fixed price or if this price will go up.

On the other hand, if you have an SMA, when you buy the SMA this is good for 2 years / 2 versions of Jaws and when purchased in advance you get 2 versions of Jaws for $150.  Right now FS / Vispero has a sale going on until the end of the month and the SMA is $120.

It's hard to explain the purchase in advance I mentioned, as an example I always buy my SMA's almost 1 year in advance.  So, my current SMA covered J2022, but because of this sale I purchased my J2023 & J2024 SMA to take advantage of the sale price.

For any further explanation you might want to give FS / Vispero sales a call and make sure they give you the sale price if you do buy an SMA.  Their Phone# Is below.
Sales: 1-8800-444-4443

Stay safe & take care.  Mike.

Where or how can I get this. When I run my serial number it says it will cost me 380 dollars. I know they have a discount with ACB Convention going. I would not get that to work. Maybe I entered the code wrong. I would like to get this.
I have the most current version of jaws.

Hi Allen,

In your case I would call FS / Vispero and talk to them directly.  You will still get the sale price, it doesn't have to be done on line to get the SMA $120 discount.  Just make sure you get an agent that knows about the sale until the end of the month.

I don’t think they will. I think you have to be either running the latest version, or be upgrading to current version from a previous version to purchase a SMA.

Wow, you must be rotten rich or else love Vispero so much that you would want to fork over hundreds and hundreds of dollars in advance for ten years' worth of SMA's.  This makes absolutely no sense because who knows what the future will hold.  FS could go belly up within the next ten years and then you would be out all that money.  Since you are apparently very comfortable financially, , it would make no sense to extend your SMA more than two years at a time.  If the price goes up after two years, you would obviously be able to afford the nominal price increase.

Holly,

So let me tell you my story.

I had an SMA thru 2023 already.

So if you went to FSActivate.com and put  in my serial number, it said I had an SMA thru 2023 and wouldn’t let me buy.

However, when I called them they gave me the $120 price.

This  only works for one SMA, I  asked  if I could buy 2 at that discount and the  answer is a nope.

I was told that FS does offer these prices n every year around this time, but was also told do not quote her on that.

TO me this m means for as long as she’s been working there, around the m full month of July, you can get that discounted SMA rate.

But this, like anything could change.

I also asked if there was a clause as  to what would happen if FS went out of business, would a user get their money back?

To which sails responded most likely that  won’t happen (I don’t think it’d happen either), but in affect she had no idea what would happen in that situation.

SO  now I’m upgraded to 2025.

The reason why I did it, is that I I’ve heard rumblings of SMA’s going up in price, and I want to get my money’s worth from this product since I use it every day for my  primary.

John

Good for you!  Ya, figured that you couldn’t buy more than one SMA upgrade at a time.  Anyway, sounds like you are set for quite awhile.  Worth a phone call.

Yeah I  use it as my Only for the most part, too.

I say for the most part as I need to upgrade to Windows 10 soon. I’d like to see what  narrator offers, but I’ll probably wind up going back to JAWS honestly. And I really really want that SSD too.

Yeah worth a phone call every year!

I half expect that $120 to be higher next year, which is why I did it to begin with.

If it is higher in price next year or even two years from now, then I won’t have to buy that year.

If you want to see about Narrator, why not try NVDA.  I don’t know how you use your computer and I don’t know how well NVDA would meet your needs but it meets a lot of users’ needs well.

Are you talking about scripts or user customization such as using frames?  JAWS is more user definable for those without knowledge of programming because of the ability to create frames.  Frames can be very important for making programs usable without having to have the delay and possible expense of having someone script for that program.

NVDA uses scripts but the general user, as in JAWS, doesn’t directly work with, change or develop them.

Each screen-reader has its advantages and does certain things better.NVDA will meet a lot of users’ needs but there are times when it is faster and more efficient to customize JAWS.
