goldwave 6.x temp settings

David Mehler

Hello,

I've got a machine with a 128GB m.2 drive in it. I'm trying to use
goldwave 6.x to convert some .flac files in to mp3, the problem is the
drive keeps running out of space. It has 55GB free. I've adjusted my
user and system temp and tmp environment variables to another drive,
this one with ovr 1TB free plus under goldwave storage settings
adjusted it's temporary storage from the smaller drive also to a
directory on this larger drive. The problem is gw is still filling up
the smaller drive and eventually complains of low disk space before
stopping.

Suggestions welcome.
Thanks.
dave.

You could do any of the following:
Do the conversions in smaller batches and clean off the smaller hard drive after each batch.
If the FLAC files are on the small drive, put them on a bigger drive before trying to convert.

it isn't clear to me what you are doing.  Why not copy all the files to the large drive, then have Gold Wwave convert the files on that larger drive.  Either that or have Gold Wave send the converted files to the larger drive while accessing the originals on the smaller drive.  That might work, too.

I had a problem with Switch recently where I had enough room on my internal hard drive to convert a very large file but the program claimed there was low disk space.  I don't know how it measures the amount of space needed but it doesn't do it correctly.  I simply copied the large file to an external drive that had much more room and had the converted file be placed on the large drive.  That solved the problem.

Perhaps Gold Wave has the same problem in accurately determining how much disk space is needed for the converted file.

Hello,

Thanks everyone for your replies. I should have specified the large
flac files are on the larger drive. I've also got goldwave's temp
settings under storage preferences pointing to a directory on that
larger drive. I have no idea why goldwave is filling up the smaller
drive with temp files when there is no reason to do so.

Thanks.
Dave.

I see that you are having a problem with temp files.  I don't know what the program is doing but Switch might do what you want without this problem.  I already described how I converted a large file using Switch.

Try converting two or three of the files

Hello,

I've tried batch mode, that's a nonstarter, won't happen. I can open a
file, but at some point of opening the file, i.e. extracting it the
drive fills up and the process halts.

Thanks.
Dave.

Hey, you might just want to send Goldwave an email, Chris is very responsive. I've tried to think of things to help, looked at the manual, and cannot come up with anything. Good luck and let us know what the final outcome is. I've used Goldwave for a long time and edited some very big broadcast WAVE files even and have never had that problem yet. Good luck.

Make sure the temp file settings in goldwave is pointing to another drive or directory.
in the option, storage.
I think by default is selected
temporary memory  storage, you can choose another drive from that radio option.

I just did on my side and it works well with some flac file

Hello,

Thanks. After doing that procedure twice it took. For some reason it
didn't go the first time and I had to restart gw and do it again. The
good news is it is working now.

Thanks.
