Yes as long as you know the new version will do the things you want yeah I'd go for it.  it's too bad there wasn't some way you could try the software first like download a demo and try it on credit cards and other things you know you need more accurate scanning for and see if it would work before you had to pay.

I do want to upgrade to be honest. New version is natively 64 bit, better OCR is always better.  I have issues when scanning things like IDs, credit cards where finereader won't scan those. I  think those are acceptable reasons to upgrade, even though ordinary letter scanning is OK.

I wonder if Kurzweil  users have seen that improvement.  I think Kurzweil has more frequent upgrades than Openbook but I'd be curious if Openbook users have seen a significant difference.


I don't do much OCR anymore and I haven't followed the programs.

It was very major. There were medical records I tried doing OCR, and it picked up whole areas of letters in 14 that were skipped with 12.

I'm curious if recognition accuracy has improved in any meaningful way for many years.  This is many years ago, but I didn't see much recognition improvement from Openbook  7 to Openbook 9, the current version.  It hasn't been updated for awhile but what I observed many years ago made me wonder if any meaningful progress has been made in recent years.
