dropbox issue

Kimsan

Hi,

So I pay for the 2 tb option for drop box. I at times from my windows machine put things into drop box. When I go to the mac, launch drop box, I’m not seeing the item in there, and only see it on the windows side. Any thoughts?

Thank you

Mike B.

You need to link the Mac computer to your Dropbox account.  Try the following:

Using JAWS 2020 and Google Chrome, I do the following:

On Dropbox site, after logging in, enter on Account. This expands the account menu.

Enter on Settings

Enter on Security tab, to select it.

There are several other settings before the list of devices. Either scroll past them, or look for the word "devices" on the page.

Devices currently linked to Dropbox are listed from the most recently used to the oldest. Each device has an indication of when it was last using Dropbox,
and each device has an "unlink" button.

Stay safe & take care.  Mike.
Just once, I want a username and password prompt to say:  "Close Enough!"

Do you have the option to link the Mac?  That might be showing only because Dropbox was accessed by the Mac.

If you uploaded the files in question from your Windows PC they may
have not fully uploaded, so they wouldn't be available anywhere but
the source PC. Check the system tray icon and see if it's still
sensing the folder and uploading those files.

You can press the Windows key and tap the letter B key to go to the
notifications chevron. Press the spacebar to open the menu and arrow
up or down to see if it's in there.

If it's not in there then you need to launch dropbox with the desktop
icon or from the start menu.
I once waited a whole day to upload a file to dropbox, only to find it
wasn't running and it just sat in my dropbox folder on my pc, lol.

If dropbox is installed and there's no icon in the system tray, adding
it back should be fairly easy, just let us know.

Here's how to show or hide icons on the system tray:

Press the Windows key on your keyboard and then type this:

taskbar settings

Then press the Enter key.

Press the H key to jump down the headers until you reach:

Notification area

Tab once to the link titled:
select which icons appear on the taskbar

Then press the Enter key.

This is a list of available icons that you can show or hide on the system tray.
Tab through the list and use the spacebar to toggle them on or off.

Hi blaster,
Dropbox isn't on that list.

Blaster

You can press the Windows key and tap the letter B key to go to the
notifications chevron. Press the spacebar to open the menu and arrow
up or down to see if it's in there.

If it's not in there then you need to launch dropbox with the desktop
icon or from the start menu.
I once waited a whole day to upload a file to dropbox, only to find it
wasn't running and it just sat in my dropbox folder on my pc, lol.

If dropbox is installed and there's no icon in the system tray, adding
it back should be fairly easy, just let us know.

If you uploaded the files in question from your Windows PC they may
have not fully uploaded, so they wouldn't be available anywhere but
the source PC.
Check the system tray icon and see if it's still sensing the folder
and uploading those files.

You need to link the Mac computer to your Dropbox account. Try the
following:

Using JAWS 2020 and Google Chrome, I do the following:

On Dropbox site, after logging in, enter on Account. This expands
the account menu.

Enter on Settings

Enter on Security tab, to select it.

There are several other settings before the list of devices. Either
scroll past them, or look for the word "devices" on the page.

Devices currently linked to Dropbox are listed from the most
recently used to the oldest. Each device has an indication of when
it was last using Dropbox, and each device has an "unlink" button.

That's strange, If you press the Windows key on your keyboard and
arrow through your list of installed programs, is Dropbox listed in
there?

If not, You may need to re-install the Dropbox program again.
I'm not sure if the business version is different from the free
personal version, but you can download it from ninite.com if needed.

If it is listed in your list of installed programs, I'd still consider
re-installing it just in case it is damaged in some way.

Also, how are you getting to the Dropbox folder with your files in it?  If you are not using the Dropbox icon on the desktop but going to the Dropbox folder in your computer, that doesn’t tell you if Dropbox is running.  All it tells you is that you are using the Dropbox folder that contains the files you have uploaded to Dropbox.  Copying a file to that folder if Dropbox isn’t running will do nothing but add a file to the folder on your machine.

Blaster,
I just see dropbox folder treview. When I expand it, it just says dropbox website.
On the mac, I uninstalled dropbox and reinstalled it, so now on the status bar I think it's called, it just says syncing, connecting, syncing connecting.
I'm signed into dropbox as well on the mac.

You can press the Windows key and tap the letter B key to go to the
notifications chevron. Press the spacebar to open the menu and arrow
up or down to see if it's in there.

If it's not in there then you need to launch dropbox with the desktop
icon or from the start menu.
I once waited a whole day to upload a file to dropbox, only to find
it wasn't running and it just sat in my dropbox folder on my pc, lol.

If dropbox is installed and there's no icon in the system tray,
adding it back should be fairly easy, just let us know.

If you uploaded the files in question from your Windows PC they may
have not fully uploaded, so they wouldn't be available anywhere but
the source PC.
Check the system tray icon and see if it's still sensing the folder
and uploading those files.

You need to link the Mac computer to your Dropbox account. Try
the
following:

Using JAWS 2020 and Google Chrome, I do the following:

On Dropbox site, after logging in, enter on Account. This expands
the account menu.

Enter on Settings

Enter on Security tab, to select it.

There are several other settings before the list of devices.
Either scroll past them, or look for the word "devices" on the page.

Devices currently linked to Dropbox are listed from the most
recently used to the oldest. Each device has an indication of when
it was last using Dropbox, and each device has an "unlink" button.

Stay safe & take care. Mike.

Kimsan,

If you don't have the dropbox icon in your Windows system tray, then
your files aren't being sensed and uploaded. There's two things that
I can think of to get dropbox up and running.

1. Maybe it was disabled in the startup menu.

Press the Windows key and type this:
startup
and then press the enter key.

This should show you a list of programs that can be run on startup.
If dropbox is in this list, make sure you press the spacebar on it to
make it active.
then restart your PC to see if it shows up in the system tray after you boot up.

2. Launch it manually from the start menu.
I know you said there was only the shortcut for the dropbox website,
but if you arrow up to the folder name "Dropbox" and press your
applications key you can arrow down to the selection titled "more".
Press your spacebar on it and then arrow down to the selection titled
"run as administrator" and press the enter key.

Hopefully one of these options will work.

If you press the windows key and then tap the letter R key to open the
run command line, you can just type the word "dropbox" and then press
the enter key to open a file explorer window that puts you in your
dropbox folder.
I usually make a new folder and then place my files in there. As soon
as you copy and paste a file in there, your system tray dropbox icon
will immediately start sensing the new file and start to upload it to
your dropbox account, showing you the upload speed and the approximate
time until it's completed. The file won't be available on your MAC
until it's completely uploaded. And of course it works in both
directions, if the file is on your MAC it won't be available on your
PC until it's completely uploaded.

Blaster

Here's how to show or hide icons on the system tray:

Press the Windows key on your keyboard and then type this:

taskbar settings

Then press the Enter key.

Press the H key to jump down the headers until you reach:

Notification area

Tab once to the link titled:
select which icons appear on the taskbar

Then press the Enter key.

This is a list of available icons that you can show or hide on the system
tray.
Tab through the list and use the spacebar to toggle them on or off.

On the mac, I go to the status bar I think it’s called to go into the dropbox.

Hope your feeling better soon Mike, we need you here buddy!
