Google device or Alexa device?

Hi List, Is there a way to get either of these devices to work with email messages? That is to: read them, respond to them, delete them or store them in a folder?

I personally have both speakers. I have them in my room and in the office and my mom has both in her room. They both have qualities to like and dislike. It is good have both say if you are trying to get your smart plugs to work, some times google does a better job than alexa. Sometimes if you want music, alexa is better at that than google. Find that google does a better job of spelling words than alexa, she actually pauses between letters alexa does not always do this. So it is good to have both if you can. Cheers Heather

Well I will start with google. Pros, she spells slower than alexa with pauses. She plays podcast better too my opinion. She handles smart plugs better that are not amazon based like the smart life and wemo. She has more information on certain subjects. She can have several voices not just one voice. Her language data base is more extensive. Cons, it is hard to pare smart items with google and she has to apps to control the speaker instead of just one like alexa. She does not have as many apps that work or connect with the speaker. You cant drop in on other speakers. Alexa, pros, you have a wide range of connected devices to connect with on the speaker. She always has more skills to use; you can change her wake word; you can drop in to different rooms and locations with your contacts; you can listen to music for free with amazon if you have prime; you can order using the speaker or put something in the cart; if you have the show, you can have face to face conversations across the country. Cons, alexa has not have the spelling feature to spell slow if you are trying to do dictation; her data base for information is not as good; amazon has some issues with their smart plugs that do not always work wich means your plugs do not work especially with their outages; not all their stuff is fullally accessible for example, you cant turn on the feature that allows you to tell the speaker to delete everything that you said as the app does not allow vo users to access that on the app; you have to have prime to make the nost out of the speaker. Both speakers will: tell the time and temp, give directions, tell jokes; give sports scores; play games; tell stories; give the news. You can listen to music free with the Google assistant. It plays music on Youtube. I don't know if it works with other music services.

I do not know what the free streaming service is from Alexa, but the "tune in"service available on my google home mini has tens of thousands of radio stations, and more podcasts than I could count.

Yes, sometimes, people send me links to u-tube things. Sometimes there are adds before the file plays, but it does play.

Perhaps a search on the subject will disclose some interesting information. You would think that, since Youtube is a free service unless you want more content and subscribe, that it would be free in digital assistants where it is free for browsers. Evidently that isn't necessarily true.

It would be interesting to find out why. You can evidently play content but not select sspecific content. It sounds more like a radio feature where you select a genre and the music service plays songs in that genre more or less like Pandora..

Yes they changed this and they got rid of google play music. So one has to have a free pandora account to get free music off their google speaker. Alexa is the only one that has free music listening with amazon music if you are a prim member. Cheers Heather

I can listen to Youtube free using the Google assistant on my phone. It is illogical that Google would allow those using web browsers to listen to Youtube for free but not users of their own smart speaker. I don't know what the situation is in countries other than The United States but I'm very skeptical that Google Voice Assistant users can't listen to Youtube for free, that is the unrestricted content, which is a great deal.

Yes, it changed when they did away with google play music and now it is all YouTube music and it lets you listen to samples till you obtain a paid YouTube account, 17 last time I was signed up for it. It may have gone up now. I know I have 3 google speakers in my home and 4 alexa speakers. You can play it with say google on your iPhone threw the YouTube app but you will get all the adds. Also, you can use YouTube off the web with adds too. But not with the speakers. I think if you have a chrome cast, you might be able to play YouTube shows. I cant berify this as I do not have a chrome cast. However, if you have a firestick tv, you can get it to play YouTube in their YouTube app off the firestick tv; with adds unless you have a paid subscription.I figured after they got rid of google play music, they were going to make you pay; so greedy.
