Jaws commands for select, copy and paste
Fanus
Hello list
This might be better for the jaws list but I forgot the email address, so maybe someone can help anyway. I want to copy text from a .pdf file but the windows select, copy and paste commands do not work. Is there a jaws function to accomplish this? Regards Fanus |

Hi. This might work.

Move your cursor to the beginning of the text you wish to select. Set a temporary place marker with control shift K. Next. Move your cursor to the end of the text you wish to select. Press insert spacebar followed by the letter M to mark text. Next, press control c. Go to where you want to paste the text and do a control V. Chris Judge -----Original Message-----

As I recall, virtualizing the window will virtualize what is on
screen. Be at the place where you want to select, virtualize the
Window, I seldom use JAWS and I don't recall the command, select the
text in the virtual window, then copy.

Close the virtual window with escape. What program are you using to read the PDF file? Adobe (spelling) or browsers use the Virtual PC Cursor and you should be able to select text in the usual way. It sounds as though you are using a program which, for some reason, doesn't allow copying to the clipboard, at least not using the standard Windows command.. Gene On 3/27/2023 4:55 AM, Fanus wrote:

Chris, thanks much, although Control +Shift +K puts one in a dialog where one must give the start marker a name. Fortunately JAWS told me that Control +Windows +K is the command for a temporary marker and this works perfectly. Gene: I also thought of the virtualizer but I can not remember the command for that. On my pc is a program, Fox It Reader which is the default for PDF files. I suppose I can change it to Acrobat. Regards Fanus On 3/27/23, Gene <gsasner@...> wrote:

If you want to continue to use Fox It as the default program, you
can use open with to open a specific PDF file in Edge or Adobe
(spelling) if you have it. I'll tell you how if you don't know.

I expected someone to give the virtualize command but since no one has, I checked. It is JAWS key alt w. Close the virtual window when finished with escape. You should be able to use the virtual window with Fox It to copy and paste in the usual way. Now that you have more options, you may want to do what you are doing or try others. I've never used any JAWS command for copying and pasting, just the standard Windows command work very well.
