Is Roku accessible? We’re considering getting it. |

That depends on your definition of accessible. It does have a screen reader but the TTS voice they use is very difficult to understand at best. I have a Stream Bar that is in the closet in its box not being used because of it.

If you decide to buy and aren't opposed to getting one second hand, I'd be willing to sell mine as I have no plans to use it. In my opinion, RoKu's TTS voice is so bad that even their cheapest stream player isn't worth buying. Again, just my opinion. Gene... On 11/14/2022 10:01 AM, Carolyn Arnold wrote:

The Roku TV sets are better, but the speech is still rough.

It does read everything. If you don't get the TV, I would recommend the Roku Express. The speech on the Amazon Fire Stick is significantly better. 73 N2DYN Angelo -----Original Message-----

I am dropping cable when my TiVo program guide subscription expires at the end of February. I chose that date to give me time to figure out what I'm going to use for a stream player, RoKu was my first choice until I heard just how bad their screen reader voice was. Now I'm thinking of either a Smart TV or something like a fire stick connected to a HDMI convertor that would provide audio out for my sound bar or my stereo.

The TV wouldn't do me much good but would give the rare visitor something to look at, the stick would be cheaper. Gene... On 11/14/2022 11:59 AM, Angelo Sonnesso wrote:

Thanks; I'll take a chance that a later model might have a clearer voice.

OK, I got this stream bar last June.

Unfortunately, I don't believe that that will happen, people have been complaining to RoKu for years about that voice and they have thus far refused to do anything about it. Gene... On 11/14/2022 12:53 PM, Carolyn Arnold wrote:

I would love it if they would put a better voice in it, you don't need a newer model to get the new voice, you just download and install the update, just like you do your phone. Gene... Carolyn, The roku app was accessible the last time I checked 3 months ago. We have a Roku Tv & it is accessible. So I would find it shocking to find out that a Roku box isn't accessible. Donna
