Thunderbird trash folder

Howard Traxler

Did it again ...  Fell asleep with a finger on the delete key. Everything inmy inbox got deleted.  Tried to find them all in the trash folder; but that was empty, too.  Where can I look for all my missing mail?  I'm using a portable version of thunderbird V102.3.2 on a windows 11 using NVDA.

Thanks

Howard

Just delete by itself without shift should move messages to the trash folder.  If they aren't there, I don't know if there is a way to recover them.

Are you using a POP3 or an IMAP account?  If you are using a POP3 account, you may be able to recover them.

I'm using an imap account.  I went to the google gMail site but couldn't find the trash there either.  I guess I should look harder.  Is there, maybe, a switch in thunderbird that will just bypass the tash folder?  I'm glad there wasn't anything there that was really important.  I gotta learn to step away if I get sleepy.

Thanks.

I don't know what happened because just pressing delete should send mail to the trash folder.  Pressing shift delete will remove the message and not send it to the trash folder.  Check to see if you have more than one trash folder in your e-mail program.  I don't know why, but I have more than one of one or two folders.  The messages may be in the other trash folder, if you have two.

With an IMAP account, if you don't see the messages in your e-mail program, you shouldn't see them on line.

You could check your all mail folder but if they aren't in trash, I don't expect them to be there, but just in case, you might as well check.

Thanks Gene.  To get to the trash, I press alt+g (goto) and up to folder.  When I right arrow there, I'm in some kind of a tree structure where folder names do repeat on several branches.  I assumed that the duplicate names were all pointing at the same folder.  I'll look again.

Wow Gene, I found it.  Looked a little harder.  Those duplicates do seem to be actually separate folders.
